How the 2026 World Cup knockout bracket works
After the group stage, 32 teams enter a single-elimination bracket: 12 group winners, 12 runners-up and the 8 best third-placed teams. Each tie is win-or-go-home — a draw after 90 minutes goes to extra time and, if needed, penalties.
This diagram follows the official match numbers (73–104). The left and right halves each feed a semi-final, the two semi-final winners meet in the final at the center, and the two semi-final losers contest the third-place play-off shown beneath it. Pick a round in the dropdown to trim the view, or open the whole bracket fullscreen.
World Cup 2026 bracket — FAQ
How many teams reach the 2026 World Cup knockout stage?
The expanded 48-team format sends 32 teams into the knockout bracket: the 12 group winners, the 12 group runners-up, and the 8 best third-placed teams. They meet in a Round of 32 that narrows to the Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final.
What does the round dropdown do?
The dropdown trims the bracket to start from the round you pick: choose Round of 16 (1/8) to drop the Round of 32 and show the Round of 16 through the final as a connected diagram, quarter-finals (1/4) to start there, and so on. Leave it on Round of 32 (1/16) to see every round. It is handy on phones, where the whole bracket is wide.
Why do some matches say “Winner of Match N”?
A knockout slot only shows real teams once both feeder matches are decided. Until then it shows the placeholder “Winner of Match N”, mirroring the official bracket. The page refreshes from a live data feed, so teams and scores fill in automatically as the tournament progresses.
When and where is the 2026 World Cup final?
The final is scheduled for July 19, 2026 at MetLife Stadium in the New York / New Jersey area. The bracket on this page marks the final at the center, with the third-place play-off shown beneath it.
Is this bracket official?
The fixtures, match numbers, dates and results follow the official 2026 World Cup knockout schedule via a public data feed. Spin and Wheel is a fan tool — always check FIFA for the authoritative schedule.
