Random Country Generator

Spin the country wheel to pick a random country. It holds all 195 countries in the world, the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City and Palestine, on equal slices, so each one has a 1 in 195 chance. Filter by continent, draw several countries at once, or give every student or player a different country.

Several countries and class draws

Both tools use the countries that are on the wheel right now. Pick a continent above first if you only want countries from there.

  • Several random countries

Draws up to 195 different countries at once, for a travel shortlist, a quiz round or a list of countries to research.

    1. A country for every student

Type one name per line and each person gets a different country, for class presentations, geography projects or a world-themed party.

How the random country generator works

Spin in three steps. Choose all 195 countries or one continent, press Spin, and the wheel stops on a random country. The winner card shows the country and can read it aloud.

Random country generator after a spin on the 12 South American countries, stopped on Brazil
This country wheel gives every country an equal slice; with the South America filter it picks from 12 countries, and this spin landed on Brazil.

Fair odds. Every slice is the same size and the result comes from your browser's cryptographic random generator. With all 195 countries each one has about a 0.51% chance; within South America, with 12 countries, each has 8.3%.

Which countries count. The wheel holds the 193 member states of the United Nations and its two observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. Territories such as Greenland, Puerto Rico or Hong Kong are not on it, but you can type them into the list.

No repeats. Press "Remove & spin again" on the winner card to take the country off the wheel, so each country comes up once until the wheel is empty. The Winners tab keeps the countries already drawn.

      Use cases

Ways to use a random country picker

      Choosing a travel destination

Can't decide where to go next? Spin all 195 countries or only one continent, or replace the list with the places you are really considering and let the wheel choose.

      Geography lessons and quizzes

Spin a country and ask the class to find it on the map, name its capital or its neighbours. The continent filter keeps the questions on the region you are studying.

      Country reports and presentations

Give every student a different country with the assign tool, so no two presentations cover the same place and nobody can say the draw was unfair.

      Cooking around the world

Spin once a week and cook a dish from the country the wheel lands on. Remove each country after it comes up and the wheel becomes a long-term food challenge.

      Map and flag games

Use the wheel as the question picker in map guessing games, flag quizzes or a game of "name a city in this country" with friends.

      Learning about the world

Pick a random country each day and read one fact about it: its language, its currency or its highest mountain. Five countries a week covers the world in under a year.

      FAQ

      Random country generator FAQ

What is a random country generator?

A random country generator (also called a country wheel, country spinner or random country picker) is a free tool that picks one country from a list at random. Here it is a spinning wheel with all 195 countries that stops on one of them.

How many countries are on the wheel?

195: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus its two observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. There are 54 in Africa, 48 in Asia, 44 in Europe, 23 in North America, 12 in South America and 14 in Oceania.

Is the country wheel really random?

Yes. All slices are the same size and the result comes from crypto.getRandomValues, the cryptographic random generator built into your browser. With all 195 countries each country has a 1 in 195 chance, about 0.51%, on every spin.

Can I get a random country from one continent?

Yes. Tap a continent above the entries, for example Europe or South America, and only its countries are loaded onto the wheel. Tap "All 195 countries" to go back to the whole world.

How do I get several random countries at once?

Type a number in the "Several random countries" box and press Generate countries. You get that many different countries from the wheel, never the same one twice, and Copy list copies them.

How do I spin without getting the same country twice?

After a spin, press "Remove & spin again" on the winner card. The country leaves the wheel and the next spin picks from the countries that are left.

Can I use it to choose where to travel?

Yes. Spin all 195 countries for a surprise, filter by continent, or replace the list with the destinations you are considering. The entries box is a plain list you can edit, and it is saved in this browser.

Are the country names in my language?

Yes. The names come from the Unicode CLDR data that browsers use for country names, in the language of the page, so they match the spelling you see in your phone's settings.
