Shot Roulette — Spin the Drinking Wheel
Shot Roulette Rules & FAQ
- What is shot roulette?
- Shot roulette is a drinking game where a spin decides who takes a shot. The tabletop version uses a roulette wheel ringed with 16 numbered shot glasses; this online version swaps the glasses for a wheel of shots, dares and group rules, so all you need is a phone and something to drink.
- How do you play shot roulette?
- Sit in a circle and pass the phone. On your turn tap Rotate The Wheel, read the result out loud and do it: 'Take a shot' means you drink, 'Choose someone to drink' passes it on, and 'Skip turn' or 'No one drinks' are free passes. Play a fixed number of rounds or until the group calls it.
- What are the rules of drinking roulette?
- Agree on three things before the first spin: what counts as a shot (spirit, a sip of beer or water), that anyone can swap a drink for a dare or the Non-alcohol pack, and that nobody is pressured to drink. The Winners tab logs every result, so there is no arguing about whose turn it was.
- Can I play shot roulette online without the glass set?
- Yes. This page is the whole game: the wheel replaces the tabletop roulette and the glasses, and it runs in any browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or TV. Nothing to download, no account.
- What is in the 7 game packs?
- Basic (classic drink rules), Social (secrets, toasts, first impressions), Challenge (dance, sing, accents, impressions), Party chaos (group rules like 'Last to sit drinks'), Hot (18+) (flirty dares for adults), Non-alcohol (push-ups, squats, jokes) and Random mix (two from each). Every entry can be edited.
- How do I play drink or dare with the wheel?
- Load the Social or Challenge pack, or press Random mix. Whoever lands a dare either does it or takes a drink instead. Add your own dares on new lines to tailor the game to your group.
- Is there a non-alcoholic version?
- Yes. The Non-alcohol pack uses fitness and silly challenges instead of drinks, and you can replace 'shot' with any soft drink in the list. It works for mixed groups where only some people drink.
- Is shot roulette a good party game?
- Yes, for 3 to 12 players who want a quick icebreaker with no setup: a round takes seconds, and because the wheel picks at random, nobody has to single anyone out. On long nights, switch packs every few rounds to keep it fresh.
- Is it free, and is it fair?
- It is free with no sign-up. Every entry has the same chance (1 in N, where N is the number of entries), and the result is picked at random on each spin. Please drink responsibly and only if you are of legal drinking age.
Ways to Play Shot Roulette
- Classic Shot Roulette
- The tabletop game without the glass set: load the Basic pack, and whoever the wheel lands on takes the shot, passes it on or gets a free pass.
- Drink or Dare
- Combine the Social and Challenge packs with Random mix. Whoever lands a dare does it or drinks instead, so the wheel runs a fair game of drink or dare.
- Drinking Wheel of Fortune
- Put the wheel on a TV or projector and let a host spin for the room, game-show style. Fullscreen and the voice-over announcement make every result easy to follow.
- Non-Alcohol Party
- The Non-alcohol pack swaps drinks for push-ups, squats, jokes and impressions, so the same game works for sober guests, designated drivers or a family game night.
- Couples and 18+ Nights
- For two players or an adults-only group, the Hot (18+) pack adds flirty dares like a slow dance or a whispered secret. Every entry is editable, so the group sets the limits.
- Bar and Pub Nights
- Run the wheel on a tablet behind the bar: add the night's drinks or specials as entries and let guests spin for them.
- Pre-Game Warm-Up
- A few quick spins of the Party chaos pack ('Last to sit drinks', 'Everyone in black drinks') get a group talking before heading out.
- Birthdays and Bachelor Parties
- Add entries about the guest of honor, such as 'The birthday person picks who drinks' or 'Toast to the bride', so the game fits the occasion.
- Remote Party
- Share the wheel by link or QR code so everyone can open it on their own phone, or show it on a video call.
- House Rules
- Write your own entries, one per line: in-jokes, local drinks or a 'Make a new rule' slot. The wheel updates instantly.
- Fair by Design
- Every entry has the same 1-in-N chance, and the Winners tab records each spin, so nobody can claim the wheel is rigged or dodge their turn.
How to Play Shot Roulette: Step-by-Step Rules
1. Set up: pour the drinks (or water for anyone not drinking) and open this page on one phone or a TV.
2. Pick a pack: Basic for classic drink rules, Social or Challenge for dares, Party chaos for group rules, Hot (18+) for adults, Non-alcohol for everyone, or Random mix.
3. Edit the wheel: add house rules or your own dares, one per line, and delete anything the group doesn't want.
4. Take turns: the player holding the phone taps Rotate The Wheel and reads the result out loud.
5. Do it: drink, take the dare, pass it on or enjoy a free pass. 'Choose someone to drink' and 'Pick 2 people to drink' move the shot to others.
6. Keep score: the Winners tab lists every result, so nobody can dodge their turn.
7. Switch it up: change packs every few rounds, or turn on auto-spin in the result window to keep the game moving.
8. Stop on time: set a round limit before you start, and let anyone swap their drink for water at any point.
Shot roulette is for adults of legal drinking age. Drink responsibly and never drive after playing.
