SpinAndWheel for Google Meet™ · Help, troubleshooting and contact
SpinAndWheel for Google Meet™ adds a random wheel to your calls: pick who presents next, choose an icebreaker question, decide where to have lunch. This page explains how to get started and what to do when something does not work. If you are stuck, email spinandwheel@gmail.com and we will help.
- Works in Google Meet™ on the web (desktop browser). It is not available in the Google Meet™ mobile apps.
- Free. No account, no sign-up. Your wheel is stored in your browser only.
- Up to 500 options per wheel; option text up to 200 characters; title up to 80 characters.
Install
- Open the SpinAndWheel listing on the Google Workspace™ Marketplace and click Install. Google Workspace™ administrators can also install it for the whole organisation from the Admin console.
- Join or start a Google Meet™ call in your browser.
- Click Activities (the triangle-square-circle icon at the bottom right, or the three-dot menu → Activities) and choose SpinAndWheel.
If SpinAndWheel is not listed under Activities, see "The add-on does not appear" below.
Use the wheel
- Set up the wheel in the side panel. Type a title, then add options one by one, paste a list (one option per line), pick a ready-made wheel from the Default dropdown (icebreakers, team activities, lunch), or press Use current participants to fill the wheel with the names of everyone in the call.
- Start SpinAndWheel. The wheel opens on your main stage, and everyone in the call is invited to join the activity. Everyone who joins sees the same wheel and the same spin, and can spin and edit it too. No screen sharing needed.
- Spin from the main stage or from the side panel. The winner is shown on everyone's wheel and in the side panel. Use Remove winner to take the winner off the wheel before the next spin, or turn on Remove winner after spin in Settings to do that automatically.
- Edit while running. Anyone in the activity can change the title, options and settings in the side panel; the wheel updates for everyone immediately. If you started the activity, turn on Only I can spin and edit at any time to keep control, and turn it off again to let everyone take part. End activity for everyone closes the wheel for all participants.
Troubleshooting
The add-on does not appear under Activities
- Make sure you use Google Meet™ in a desktop browser. Add-ons are not shown in the Google Meet™ mobile apps or on Google Meet™ hardware.
- Check that the add-on is installed for the Google™ Account you joined the call with. Open the Marketplace listing while signed in with that account.
- In a Google Workspace™ organisation, an administrator may need to allow Marketplace apps or install SpinAndWheel for your domain. Ask your admin.
- Reload the Google Meet™ tab. Newly installed add-ons sometimes appear only after a refresh.
"Unable to connect to Google Meet™"
The panel was opened outside Google Meet™, or Google Meet™ did not finish loading it within its time limit. Close the panel and open SpinAndWheel again from the Activities menu. If it keeps happening, reload the Google Meet™ tab or try another browser (Google Chrome™, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox are supported).
"This meeting doesn't allow starting activities"
The meeting host or your Google Workspace™ administrator has turned off add-on activities for this call. Ask the host to allow activities in the host controls, or run the wheel on spinandwheel.com and share your screen instead.
"An activity is already running"
Someone in the call has already started SpinAndWheel. Join it from the Activities panel and you get the same wheel. If the person who started it locked the wheel and has left, ask anyone to end the activity so a new one can be started.
Participants cannot see the wheel
Each participant needs to join the activity: Google Meet™ shows them an invitation when it starts, and they can also open it from Activities → SpinAndWheel. If the panel says Could not connect to the shared wheel, check the network connection; some company networks block Firebase™ (*.firebasedatabase.app). Screen sharing is also enabled for this add-on, so you can present the wheel to people who cannot join.
I can't spin or edit the wheel
The person who started the activity has turned on Only I can spin and edit. You still see every spin live. Ask them to turn it off.
"Use current participants" does not work
- A Google sign-in window opens. This is normal the first time. Google asks for permission to see information about your meeting so the add-on can read the participants' display names. Allow it to continue. You can revoke it later at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- "The Google sign-in window was blocked." Allow pop-ups for meet.google.com in your browser's address-bar icon or site settings, then press the button again.
- "Sign-in was cancelled." The permission window was closed before you allowed access. Press the button again and choose Allow.
- "No one has joined the call yet." Google reports participants only once the call is running with at least one person in it. Wait a moment and try again.
- "Google didn't allow reading this meeting's participants." Your account cannot read the participant list, usually because of an organisation policy on the Google Meet™ API. Type or paste the names instead.
- "Participant import is not configured for this build." The feature is not enabled in this deployment of the add-on. Paste the names using Paste list.
The wheel is empty after reopening the panel
Your wheel is saved in your browser's storage for spinandwheel.com. It is lost if you clear site data, use a private window, or your browser blocks third-party storage inside Meet. Keep a copy of long lists in a document and use Paste list to restore them.
No sound
Browsers only play sound after you interact with the page. Spin from the side panel, where you clicked, or click once on the main stage before spinning. You can turn sound off under Settings → Enable sound.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it really random?
- The winner is chosen by the browser's random number generator before the animation starts, and the animation is built to land on it. It is fair for icebreakers and team decisions, but not intended for prize draws or anything with legal or financial consequences.
- Can other participants spin the wheel?
- Yes. Everyone who joins the activity can spin and edit the same wheel. The person who started the activity can lock it at any time so only they can change it, and unlock it again.
- Does the add-on record or listen to the call?
- No. It has no access to audio, video or chat. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what it stores.
- Who can see what I put on the wheel?
- Everyone who joins the activity in your meeting. The wheel is kept in a private shared room on Firebase™ that only they can open, and it is deleted when the activity ends. Do not put anything on the wheel you would not say in the call.
- Can I use the wheel outside Google Meet™?
- Yes. The same wheel, plus many themed wheels, is available free at spinandwheel.com.
- How do I uninstall it?
- Open the Marketplace listing while signed in and click Uninstall, or remove it from Google Workspace™ Marketplace apps in your Google™ Account settings. Administrators remove it from the Admin console.
